Ceramic coatings have been used since ancient times in exterior cladding, mainly for decorative purposes. Even today we keep traces of Greek, Egyptian and Roman civilizations, which demonstrate the qualities of ceramics to withstand the test of time without alterations. The façade is the first architectural barrier that protects homes from external aggressions.

The ceramic applied on façades constitutes an enclosure which provides thermal protection; against water and moisture; sound; fires and mechanical and chemical attacks. Furthermore, as an aesthetic enclosure it provides luminosity, self-cleaning, colour and expressiveness by providing the possibility of creating “outdoor museums”.

Several studies have shown that using ceramic tiles on façades provides greater integrity and durability. It is also worth highlighting the important technological advances in materials; special pieces; installation systems (cementitious adhesives with specific additives to improve deformability, adhesion, and resistance to external agents); the parallel development of light façade installation systems, with visible and hidden anchors, and the development of the training and progressive specialization of professional installers.  Both things provide high guarantees of adequacy and expand the aesthetic and technical possibilities when it comes to designing façade coverings.
